Her Flag is a project created by Oklahoma artist Marilyn Artus, in collaboration with over 70 artists nationwide, commemorating the struggle to pass the 19th Amendment granting American women the right to vote. The Her Flag -- Star Field Event will feature Marilyn Artus sewing 18 stripes, based on artworks created by artists from the 36 states that ratified the 19th Amendment, to the star field of an 18' x 26' American flag. Her presentation will be accompanied by a talk by historian Dr. Sunu Kodumthara about the struggle for women's suffrage, followed by a Q&A. The event will also feature poet Angie LaPaglia and singer/songwriter Carter Sampson. The Her Flag project highlights the unknown heroines of the suffrage movement and the diversity of the women who fought for the right to vote.
