"Mandala" literally means "that which extracts the essence." A group of Tibetan monks/scholars will discuss and demonstrate the creation of sand mandalas during a five-day process as a means of promoting harmony and compassion. After the opening ceremony on Tuesday, March 26th, the Tibetan monks will create a sand mandala from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Wednesday through Friday. Lectures and rituals will be held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:00 pm. The lectures and rituals will broaden our scope of understanding of the Tibetan culture and will include a Tibetan Tea Offering Ceremony, White Tara Empowerment, and the Vajravidharin Healing Ritual.

During the creation of the mandala, guests are invited to come and go as often as they like and may converse with the monks. A practice table will also be set up so guests can work with the same materials as the scholars with hands-on assistance. A closing ceremony will be held on Saturday the 30th at 3:30 pm. The sand mandala events are free and open to the public, and the lectures will have a suggested donation of $15.
