"Home1947" Exhibit

Event Details

Hosted by Oklahoma Contemporary, "Home1947," an exhibition by artist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, explores the lives and stories of the millions displaced in 1947 during the creation of two new independent nation-states, India and Pakistan.  Using various media--video, film, photography, digital work, found objects, archival documents, sound, and scent--the artist invites viewers to consider what was left behind as people fled their homes.  Through a series of short documentary and narrative films, virtual reality, and oral histories, the exhibition considers the experience of refugees fleeing their homes while also considering the relationship between our humanity and how we return to the things we value.
