Event Details

“Inside These Walls: The Freedom Center Story” welcomes visitors to the historic building for an immersive experience. This exhibit introduces Clara Luper and the NAACP Youth Council, shares the building’s architectural history, highlights key figures and events, explores Youth Council and broader community activities, and reflects on the Center’s overall impact.

The exhibit also illuminates various elements of African American culture.  From the Miss Black Oklahoma pageants to the centrality of selling catfish dinners as a fundraising strategy, the story of the Freedom Center not only reflects decades of Black history, it also involves the creation of new cultural phenomena.
