Event Details
The Crowns Tea helps Oklahomans learn about human experiences. This event is centered on the book, Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. Attendees are asked to read the book prior to the event. Crowns Tea discussion topics may include: red lining, sundown towns, historic ethnic tensions, voter registration, othering, censorship, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), or Dawes Rolls/blood quantum. Each topic is directly connected to stories within the book. Hats are encouraged. This program is presented by Thick Descriptions.
