The Crowns Tea is an annual event held at the Guthrie Public Library to celebrate African American women and the church hat. From an anthropological perspective that incorporates history, culture, literature, art and language this program beautifully captures the self-expressions of women. Based on the book "Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats" by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry, females of all ages are honored for their narratives as an American woman.
